The Department of Teaching and Learning
Preliminary data suggests that the Cuyahoga Falls Schools will earn the EXCELLENT rating once again!
Our Department is responsible for the development of all district curriculum, courses of study and instructional programming. We focus on the development of curriculum, best practices in instruction, district and state testing and assessment and professional development for staff. Our Department is home to the Office of Technology, the Gifted and Talented Program (Project Excel), the Title One / Remedial Skills Program and Library Services.
The Local Report Card for the Cuyahoga Falls City School District will be released in late August by the Ohio Department of Education. Preliminary analysis of our data shows marked improvements with the district meeting 24 of the 26
state indicators.
This school year, our professional development, curriculum development and instructional focus will center on the implementation of a new Language Arts series in grades K-2. Additionally, we will continue work in the creation of curriculum maps, unit plans and common assessments in middle school language arts, social studies and science. At the High School, we will continue implementation of benchmark assessments to monitor student progress and curriculum maps to pace our instruction. We are also beginning a comprehensive analysis of our high school grading policy in an effort to examine and revise our practices. This year, we will pilot a new 90-10 grading scheme in select High School classrooms, at DeWitt Elementary School and at Bolich Middle School. Watch for more information on this new initiative.
Our continuous improvement work this year will include a focus on Science as well as in-depth studies of the "conditions for learning" at each school. Continuing our work with implementation of the Response to Intervention process for academic and behavioral interventions K-12, we will focus on the integration of 21st Century Skills in district classrooms. This promises to be a very busy and productive year for The Department of Teaching and Learning.
